Austin Dog Parks

Austin has a multitude of off-leash dog parks, some with fenced areas and some with wide open spaces.

Austin’s rules for responsible pet ownership in off-leash areas: dogs must be within sight and sound control of owners/handlers at all times, dogs in heat are not allowed in off-leash areas, rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs as required by State Law, owners/handlers must clean up after their dogs and deposit waste into a trash can, and aggressive dogs must be removed from public spaces immediately.

Auditorium Shores 

920 W. Riverside Dr.
On the banks of Town Lake, west of the First Street Bridge, pet owners will find Auditorium Shores. Known foremost as an outdoor concert venue or place to watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July, the leash-free area from South First to Bouldin Avenue also attracts visitors from across the city with two legs or four. The unfenced park provides a stunning view of the Austin skyline, and dogs can swim in Town Lake, which is directly next to the jogging and bike trail.

Bull Creek District Dog Park

6701 Lakewood Drive
This unfenced dog park provides access to the nearby creek for pets who love to swim. Dogs may run and play off leash, but must be under verbal control and in sight of their owners.

Cedar Bark Park

2525 W. New Hope Drive Cedar Park, TX 78613

The 5 acre fenced dog park offers plenty of room for dogs to run and includes a pier that leads to a pond just for water-loving dogs. This park has separate areas for large and small dogs and also includes a doggie shower for pets needing a rinse off before heading home.

Far West ROW

Between Great Northern Blvd. & Shoal Creek Blvd.
This small dog park features a limited leash free area that can be found between Great Northern Boulevard and Shoal Creek Boulevard. 

Georgetown Bark Park

151 Holly Street Georgetown TX 78626

The Georgetown Bark Park is a large, fenced in play zone for dogs that has a separate small dog section to keep little guys safe. Large pecan trees offer shade and a peaceful setting for both pups and people. Built-in benches and a watering station for dogs keep everyone comfortable.

Northeast District Park

5909 Crystalbrook Dr.
This public park has barbeque grills, picnic tables, a lighted basketball court, volleyball pit, two horseshoe pits, and a playground in addition to a dog zone. The leash free area is located between Crystal Brook Drive, the railroad, and Decker Lake Road.

Norwood Estate Dog Park

I-35 and Riverside Drive
This fully fenced dog park allows dogs to run and play off-leash, but pets must be under verbal control and within sight of their owner. The whole park, located close to Town Lake and homes on Lake Austin, is shaded and has separate areas for large and small dogs. The park is located on the north end of Travis Heights at the northwest corner of Riverside Drive and I-35.

Onion Creek District Park

6900 Onion Creek Dr.
This public park offers a leash-free area found at the North end of the greenbelt.

Pease Dog Park

1100 Kingsbury Street

This off-leash dog park includes benches and rock features for Fido to loop around while running free.

Red Bud Isle

3401 Red Bud Trail Unit Cr. 
Located on Town Lake, just below Tom Miller Dam, Red Bud Isle is the entry point for the Redbud Trail. A peninsula surrounded by a lake lets dogs swim and run in a leash-free area.

Shoal Creek Greenbelt 

2600-2799 Lamar Blvd.
This three-mile trail extends from Town Lake to 38th Street, following Shoal Creek and large, green trees along a gravel trail. The section of the trail from 24th Street to 29th Street is designated as leash-free, making it a popular spot for dog owners who live in nearby neighborhoods like the Tarrytown community.

Walnut Creek District Park

12138 N. Lamar Blvd.
Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is located in north Austin, to the west of IH-35. There are two entrances to the park, with the east entrance located on Lamar Blvd., north of Braker Lane, and the north entrance on Willow Wild Drive, a neighborhood side street that connects with Parmer Lane. The leash-free area is located between Old Cedar Lane, Walnut Creek, and the east and west park fences. This area of the park has winding trails that traverse the water, letting dogs go for a refreshing swim.

Zilker Dog Park

2100 Barton Springs Rd.
This unfenced dog park lets pets roam and play off-leash, but animals must be under verbal control and within the owner’s sight. The large open areas double as soccer fields, and are great for playing catch or frisbee with your dog.
