Travis Country West is a community of about 250 homes on Southwest Parkway, to the west of sister neighborhood Travis Country. Travis Country West is a separate entity from Travis Country and a smaller, newer neighborhood, with construction of homes from around 2002 to 2007. Travis Country West has a peaceful, hill country feel, with ample greenspace, and its design allows for no through-traffic, creating an intimate enclave for residents. This neighborhood-centric traffic flow also enhances the collective identity and activity of the neighborhood.

“I like that there are lots of young families and interactive activities for families,” said resident Tosha Patel. She said Travis Country West is “very quiet and safe,” with “not a lot of unnecessary traffic.”

Employers such as AMD and Freescale are only moments from Travis Country West. It is zoned for the Austin Independent School District and also is close to numerous private schools, daycares, and preschools. Regents School of Austin and St. Andrew’s Episcopal School are the closest private schools and are the reason many people consider Travis Country West. Regents is a classical Christian school for grades 1-12, set on an 82-acre campus on Travis Country Circle. St. Andrew’s (Upper School, grades 9-12) is on Southwest Parkway and offers an average class size of only 12 students.

Location

Travis Country West is 10 miles from downtown Austin, four miles west of the Mo-Pac/Ben White intersection, and three and a half miles west of the original Travis Country. The neighborhood is bounded by Cobblestone Drive to the east, with Sunset Ridge to the west. Old Bee Caves Road serves as its southern boundary and Southwest Parkway as its northern boundary. It is in zip code 78735 and MLS area W. Highway 71 is just west of the neighborhood, providing a gateway to the hill country and Lake Travis.

The Travis Country West HOA is an active organization, with community events and resident participation. Dues are mandatory.

Amenities

Travis Country West has a gated, keycard entry swimming pool that is open 24 hours a day, with an onsite pavilion and a shaded baby pool area. The neighborhood also maintains a playscape and a basketball court. A gravel and blacktop combination hike and bike trail circles the neighborhood for 1.77 miles.

Travis Country West also is close to the miles of trails and greenspace of the Barton Creek Greenbelt. The four golf courses at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa are the closest to the neighborhood.

While not always open to the public, the 4,084 acre Barton Creek Nature Preserve is across from Travis Country West and protects the habitat of the Golden-cheeked Warbler and the Black-capped Vireo.

Shopping and Restaurants

Patel said she appreciates Travis Country West is “in the vicinity of the city – easy to downtown -and love the Hill Country Galleria!”

The Hill Country Galleria is a large shopping and multi-function center just up Highway 71 that includes Bee Caves City Hall and Bee Caves Library. An outdoor amphitheatre, kids’ water play features, a Whole Foods, and many popular restaurants and dozens of stores such as Dillard’s add to the center’s appeal.

East and south of Travis Country West are the numerous shopping centers of Sunset Valley and Oak Hill. At the intersection of Mo-Pac and Ben White are Best Buy, Sam’s Club, Target, and more, with Barnes and Noble, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Walmart just around the corner. South on Mo-Pac are the Shops at Arbor Trails, with Costco, another Whole Foods, and eateries such as Chuy’s, Mandola’s, Kerbey Lane, and Tiff’s Treats. A quick jaunt up Mo-Pac leads to Barton Creek Mall and Theatre.

Travis Country West is also moments away from popular Natural Gardener, known as the “Organic Gardening Headquarters” of Austin.

Cultural Offerings

The amphitheatre at the Hill Country Galleria is a popular gathering spot for residents of Travis Country West, with events such as a free Saturday Night Concert Series.

Also nearby is concert venue One World Theatre.

The Austin Zoo, a functioning animal sanctuary, is west of the neighborhood, with over 350 animals across over 100 species.
