published on February 8, 2012
Valentine’s Day is less than a week away, and whether you celebrate with a significant other or a special friend, a good meal and a fun time out on the town or snuggled fireside in an Austin luxury home can be found. Austin has numerous restaurants that are ideal for a romantic evening, and many are offering special menus and pricing for couples on February 14th. Below are a few ideas for a night on the town that are sure to impress even the most fickle Valentine:
Uchi
Uchi sushi can set a mood simply by its soft lights and peaceful décor, but its menu, combining local and seasonal ingredients with seafood from around the globe, is the clincher in securing love at first bite. Traditional Japanese offerings are paired with new and refreshing flavors and textures. Seafood is flown in every day from the Tsukiji market in Tokyo to insure diners get the freshest and most unique sushi experience in town so Austinites from Avery Ranch to Sendera can get a taste of the sea any day of the week.
FINO
Perched on a second floor, FINO has a charming tree house feel, with plenty of windows, and detailed lighting creates an ambiance perfect for a festive bar scene and romantic dining. The patio dining & lounge area offers a relaxed feel where guests can enjoy all their menus have to offer. Executive chef Jason Donoho crafts a menu of local, seasonal items inspired by the flavors, spices and cuisines of the Mediterranean. Spanish, Greek, and North African dishes mingle comfortably on the lunch, dinner, and brunch menus in both tapas and large plate sizes, inviting shared dining and satisfying appetites of all sizes. On Valentine’s, enjoy specials that include gulf crab croquette, scallop and pork belly, and lobster bomba risotto.
Foreign and Domestic
Located in Northwest Austin not far from the Ranch at Brushy Creek, Foreign and Domestic is a true labor of love between owners and chefs Ned & Jodi Elliott. Known for daring flavor combinations, a welcoming charm, and innovative menu creations, Foreign and Domestic also draws a crowd because of its convenient location and easy accessibility. On Valentines, treat your sweetheart to a special four course meal with wine pairings.
FronteraFest Best of the Fest at The Hyde Park Theatre
Valentine’s Day will play host to FronteraFests’s Best of the Fest at the Hyde Park Theatre, an annual tradition known for its showcasing of local talent. Now in its nineteenth season, Austin’s FronteraFest lasts for five weeks, features hundreds of performers, and takes place in three theaters and a few private homes across town. Acts can be anything and everything, including theater, dance, music, magic, and animal acts. Best of the Fest will be the culminating night, featuring the top rated acts of the three week festival.
The Old Coupland Inn & Dancehall
A truly romantic date night couldn’t be complete without dancing. The Old Coupland Inn & Dancehall, located just outside of Austin, is known for providing nights of great entertainment since 1910. Every weekend, great bands from Texas and Nashville make the hall resonate with live country music as guests two-step across the floor and enjoy drinks from the bar. An evening in Coupland only requires a short drive through the country east of Austin, and a “two-step back in time” to the historic venue. The special Valentine’s menu in the dining room includes grilled rib eye, cowboy potatoes, salad, Texas toast, chocolates, flowers, and champagne for two.
