trader joe's in austinAustinites woke up to good news this morning, when the Austin American Statesman reported that Trader Joe’s is planning to open its first Austin store in the planned development at the Seaholm Power Plant downtown. In addition to Trader Joe’s, the development project will feature almost 300 new apartments, office space, retail space, and an acre of outdoor event space. This location will be especially convenient for neighborhoods located in close proximity to downtown, like Circle C and Barton Creek West.

Trader Joe’s is a unique, neighborhood grocery store with foods and beverages emphasizing natural and organic brands. The store will have the traditional Trader Joe’s face that fans of the business have come to expect, including Hawaiian theme mixed with natural elements like cedar-covered walls. The Austin store also will feature local flair that includes art celebrating the downtown neighborhood.

The new store, destined to open sometime in 2013, will carry an extensive array of domestic and imported foods and beverages, including fresh baked artisan breads, Arabica bean coffees, international frozen entrées, 100% juices, fresh crop nuts, deli items, and vitamins and supplements, as well as the basics, like milk and eggs, all at competitive prices.

Buyers for Trader Joe’s travel around the world to search out unique products at great values. In order for an item to be sold in a Trader Joe’s store, it must pass the scrutiny of a discerning tasting panel. Thousands of items are tasted each year to find products that appeal to both the culinary adventurer and microwave aficionado.
