St. Edward’s University, located in Central Austin, has been designated a top producer of U.S. Fulbright Students and is tied for fourth place in the nation among institutions presenting master’s degrees. This year, 21 St. Edward’s students applied for the Fulbright scholarship, with 10 students becoming finalists. This number is up from last year, which showed 13 applicants and 6 finalists.

Once students become finalists, they have an approximately 50% chance of being awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. Fulbright Scholarships have allowed St. Edward’s University students to study in the following countries: Brazil, Costa Rica, Germany, Mongolia, Thailand, and Turkey.

There have been 13 Fulbright Scholarships awarded to St. Edward’s University students since 2004. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is the largest U.S. International exchange program offered to graduate students. These awards make an example of the university’s commitment to prepare students for the opportunities and challenges of today’s interconnected world.

The winners of the Fulbright awards will be announced between March and May for the 2011-2012 finalists. Once chosen for the award, students will be able to continue their graduate work anywhere in the world. The Fulbright Program provides round-trip transportation and compensation for tuition, living expenses, and meal planning.
