Save Money and a Life: Bring an Austin Shelter Pet Home For the Holidays!

adopt pets in austinOn December 6th, the Austin Humane Society and the Austin Animal Center emBARKed on their “Home for the Holidays” winter adoption program. From now until January 7th, the program provides a PURRRfect opportunity for families to welcome a new pet while reducing animal homelessness.

“All of the shelters and rescue organizations in our area are full right now,” says Abigail Smith, Chief Animal Services Officer at the Austin Animal Center. “We have far too many wonderful pets that are homeless in our community, and we want to help them find forever families.”

Adoption fees are only $20 at both shelters, and fees are waived for all senior animals (5+ years). In addition, cats and kittens are 2-for-1! Potential adopters will go through the standard adoption application process at both shelters. Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, updated vaccinations, a microchip, collar, and tags.

“Every animal wants a safe home and a loving family,” says Frances Jonon, Austin Humane Society Executive Director. “We see so many people opening up their hearts to pets during the holidays, and it is our goal to make sure they are adopting from shelters.”
