published on July 3, 2014

Austin Aces tennis teamRegent Property Group is excited to announce its sponsorship of the Austin Aces, Austin’s first professional tennis team. With local matches at the Cedar Park Center, marquee stars include Austin resident and former World #1 Andy Roddick and Reigning 2013 Wimbledon Champion Marion Bartoli. The inaugural season kicks off at home on July 8 against the Springfield Lasers.

The Aces lineup also includes former World No. 2 Vera Zvonareva and doubles specialists Treat Huey and Eva Hrdinova, and the team will be coached by British tennis legend John Lloyd. The Austin Aces were relocated to Austin to join Mylan World TeamTennis after entrepreneur Lorne Abony purchased the Orange County franchise. WTT utilizes a coed team format co-founded by Billie Jean King in the 1970s, and the organization has been a showcase for tennis’ top players for decades, with virtually every major champion of the Open era playing in the league.

“Aces matches are a great night out for fans of all ages,” said General Manager Kerry Schneider. “In addition to the high-level tennis competition on the court, there will be a pre-match kids’ zone, concessions and vendor booths, corporate hospitality opportunities, and a post-match autograph session for kids 16 and under at every match.”

How WTT Play Works:

  • Each Mylan WTT team is comprised of two men, two women, and a coach.
  • Team matches consist of five sets, with one set each of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
  • The first team to reach five games wins each set. One point is awarded for each game won, and a nine-point tiebreaker is played if a set reaches four all.
  • If necessary, Overtime and a Supertiebreaker are played to determine the outright winner of the match.

The team will be a part of the Western Conference, along with the Springfield Lasers, Texas Wild, and San Diego Aviators. At the end of the regular season, the top two teams from both the Western and Eastern Conferences advance to the Mylan WTT Conference Championships, for an opportunity to reach the Finals.

While the tennis season will be only three weeks long each July, the Aces will have a year-round presence in Austin with tennis clinics, charitable giving, community outreach, and special events.

The Aces will be the third major sports team to call Cedar Park Center home, joining the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars – NHL affiliate to the Dallas Stars – and the NBA D-League’s Austin Toros – NBA affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs. Configured for tennis, the facility will seat over 5,500 in air conditioned comfort, with ample parking.
