Polkadots Cupcake Factory Takes the Cake in Austin
published on May 18, 2012
University of Texas students have the perfect West Campus study break option on Rio Grande St. with Polkadots Cupcake Factory. The small shop, located in a craftsman cottage, bakes cupcakes, custom cakes, and hand-iced cookies from scratch every morning. The couple behind the shop, Olga and Ben Lee, both gave up corporate careers in 2008 to pursue the dream of creative entrepreneurship. The result, a thriving bakery bursting with local flavor and chocolate chips, has benefitted Austinites from across the city, especially those in nearby neighborhoods Barton Creek and Eanes ISD.
Olga developed the recipes for Polkadots cupcakes at night while working by day in a cubicle at a major consulting firm. With help from Ben, a graduate of the UT McCombs School of Business, Olga brought her original recipes to storefront in a 1908 house close to campus. The bakery offers 12 different flavors of cupcakes in store every day, with special requests taken in orders of 12 or more.
Olga has a special flair for decoration, creating unique and custom 3D cake designs and ornate cookie and cake decorations with real frosting to cater weddings, events, and parties. Treats for people with special dietary needs, like egg free, sugar free or gluten free, can be ordered in advanced. Polkadots will deliver across the city, or you can stop in and enjoy your treat in the welcoming storefront. A cupcake treat is an inexpensive taste of delicious Austin luxury.
