North Burnet Area Set for New Developments
published on June 6, 2012
Residents of northwest Austin neighborhoods like Davenport Ranch and Lakeway can expect exciting new developments close to their homes in the future. The North Burnet area will see several new projects, executed over the next 30 years, including walking and bicycle trails and mixed use facilities similar to The Triangle, The Domain, and Midtown Commons. The new developments will have new Austin luxury homes built above retail, office, and restaurant space, helping eliminate the need for vehicle traffic.
The plan centers on a hub of transportation, retail, and residential space that will be located where Braker, Burnet Road and Kramer Lane meet and includes the Kramer Lane MetroRail. In the next 30 years, new development there is expected to include 40,000 new residential units, 12 million square feet of office and commercial space, 4 million square feet of retail, 5 million square feet of industrial warehouse space, and 3,000 hotel rooms. This growth is in sync with Austin’s rapidly expanding population and reputation as an excellent home to small and national business.
TopGolf Inc. will kick off the construction by establishing a three-story driving range and restaurant that will open by 2013. Next door, a new apartment complex called The Addison will be built. This will set the tone for mixed use buildings and a walkable community that will follow suit. Improvements to existing roads also will help ease potential traffic jams caused by increased interest and business in the area. The overall vision includes expanded sidewalks, bike lanes, street medians, and shade trees for a more pleasant pedestrian experience.
