Artisans Impact Local Economy at Annual Pecan Street Festival

published on September 12, 2011

Supporting local merchants and artisans for the past 30 years, Austin’s Fall 2011 Pecan Street Festival is sure to be a hoot. The Pecan Street Festival resides in Downtown Austin and is slated for September 24 & 25, 2011. The Pecan Street Festival is a free, bi-annual, arts and crafts fair that features local music and food, in addition to wares sold by artists from all over the United States.

Every year the Pecan Street Festival attracts over 300,000 people to Austin hot spot 6th Street to participate in a celebration of Austin’s local merchants. The festival bolsters $43 million in economic impact from the exchange of goods and donations. In addition to purchasing items from merchants, patrons are able to donate to Austin charities, and profits go to Austin Habitat for Humanity, Austin Blues Society, Austin Pets Alive, and The Knights of Columbus. This year, there will be local musical acts on three stages, including The Shears, Ringo Deathstarr, Digital Antique, and NAKIA.

Another event taking place at Fall 2011 Pecan Street Festival is Doc Seaton’s Magic Side Show. The Side Show features magic, comedy, circus acts, and other stage performances at two locations of the festival. There also will be hands-on magic for the whole family at the LEGO Experience, with two activity tents that give families an opportunity to interact with LEGOs.

No matter what Austin neighborhood you call home, the Pecan Street Festival is a great way to spend the weekend with kids, friends, or family – and benefit our local economy!
