Lions Golf Course a Step Closer to Historical Landmark

published on February 23, 2016

Lions Golf CourseThe Lions Municipal Golf Course, in west Austin between Lake Austin Boulevard and Enfield Road, is one step closer to being preserved. According to KXAN.com, the Austin City Council voted to allow the golf course to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The recommendation now will be reviewed by a State Historic Preservation Officer over the next 90 days. Then, it will be sent to the National Park Service for a final decision within 45 days.

The 91-year-old golf course is the oldest public course in Austin and has benefited from a grassroots movement, dubbed “Save Muny.” The University of Texas owns the land and planned to redevelop it into a mix of commercial and residential development.
