LCRA Temporarily Opens Floodgates
published on April 19, 2016
The Lower Colorado River Authority opened one floodgate at Tom Miller Dam temporarily due to double-digit rainfall amounts across the central Texas region that resulted in heavy inflow into Lake Austin. Austin Energy temporarily opened two floodgates at the Longhorn Dam.
While Lake Travis recently reached the 100 percent full mark, the lake basin was designed to hold another buffer of 30-plus feet during flooding. Mansfield Dam has not had its floodgates opened for almost ten years and is not expected to require floodgate operations as a result of these heavy rains.
The heaviest rains pounded the area between Bastrop and LaGrange.
