Karaoke Fever: Austin Karaoke Spots

published on April 5, 2012

karaoke bars austin, ego'sLove to sing but not quite ready for the stages of American Idol? The karaoke scene in Austin is an excellent outlet for that hidden talent and a popular activity among many Austinites. Fortunately, Austin is home to quite a few karaoke hot-spots.

Ego’s bar in South Austin is a popular choice for an intimate setting to belt out the tunes at its nightly karaoke. Self-described as “fantastically funky and divinely divey,” Ego’s is a little hidden treasure of Austin — it’s actually located below a building — where patrons can play pool, check out a game on one of the big screen TVs, or showcase their karaoke skills. Ego’s was voted “Best Karaoke Bar ‘09” in the Austin Chronicle, and it’s a great choice for either participating in the singing or just enjoying the spectacle.

Another place to share a common interest in karaoke with friends is Common Interest Karaoke Bar & Grill. Located on Burnet Road, this Northwest Austin karaoke bar offers private karaoke rooms for groups. The small rooms run $25 an hour and can hold up to 10 people. The large room is $50 an hour and can hold up to 30 people—perfect for a birthday or office party.

Besides the private rooms, one of the great things about Common Interest is they serve food late—until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. For the serious, dedicated performers singing duets from Grease with their friends, this late-night food could be an important source of energy.

Both bars offer daily specials and a chance to let loose surrounded by some of Austin’s finest karaoke stars!
