Ballet Austin II Presents Peter and the Wolf and Another Reason to Live Downtown

Downtown living is typically synonymous with young adults who want to have access to a more fast-paced lifestyle surrounded by trendy downtown employers, fashionable boutiques, nice restaurants, and all the nightlife they can handle. However, having a home downtown doesn’t always have to be for the single set. Another of these great attractions, Ballet Austin, is giving families even more of an incentive to be in the area with their upcoming run of Peter and the Wolf.

The timeless Russian classic will leap to life October 29-30 and November 5-6, with the help of artistic director/choreographer Stephen Mills, the music of Sergei Prokofiev, and recorded narration by actor Sean Connery. Children (recommended ages 2-8) will get to know the characters of Peter, his grandfather, the Wolf, and others as they dance across the stage to Prokofiev’s music, which also serves as a teaching tool to educate about various instruments, including the bassoon, stringed instruments, and horns. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the production, as each opens with an interactive section that gives the audience the chance to help the dancers create choreography they will see later in that performance.

The production is offered up by Ballet Austin II, Ballet Austin’s second company/apprentice program that gives young adults the opportunity to learn while performing their own shows, as well as with the main company in larger productions.
