Austin’s Sweet Creations: a New Face in Cakes

There’s always room for another cupcake, and Austin’s newest bakery, Sweet Creations, offering cupcakes, custom cakes, cookies, tres leches cake, cinnamon rolls, éclairs, flan, funnel cakes, and ice cream, fits nicely in to Austin’s baked goods scene. The new shop, located close to the Milwood neighborhood and Lake Travis, is the creative project of Dulce Silva, who realized her knack for cake baking and decorating after single handedly creating complex confections for family members that included princess castles and Thomas the Tank Engine cakes.  

Silva’s skills have been put to the test quickly, as orders for birthday and wedding cakes have asked for everything from cakes in the shape of the Italian peninsula to tiered cakes with a 15 inch bottom tier. Her fondant abilities were honed at the All in One Bake Shop, a popular store offering bakeware and classes for home and professional bakers.  

Cupcakes at the new shop come in flavors like German chocolate, red velvet, cherry, chocolate, and vanilla. Her best seller, to her surprise, though, has been her funnel cakes, which have brought customers in from across the city looking for the carnival style treat. The tres leches cake, a traditional Mexican spongecake made with evaporated and condensed milk and cream, has been passed down from her grandmother’s recipe collection, and is also served on the menu of neighboring restaurant Jardin Corona.
