Austin’s Home Composting Rebate Challenge!
published on June 13, 2012
Composting systems can be pricy, but Austin home-owners from the Ridge at Lantana to Travis Country are saving green while going green by taking advantage of the City’s Home Composting Rebate Challenge. This latest initiative encourages residents to downsize to a 32-gallon trash cart, take a free home composting class, and purchase a home composting system by offering a rebate of up to $75.
Why compost? A better question is, why not? According to Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) website, composting is a great way “to recycle your kitchen waste and yard trimmings, reduce your trash output and generate a free and rich soil conditioner.”
Composting also benefits the environment by protecting groundwater from harsh chemical fertilizers and lowering the amount of waste headed to area landfills, says the ARR. “Compost will improve your soil while helping Austin be a healthier, more sustainable city.”
Ready to take Austin’s Home Composting Rebate Challenge? It’s as easy as 1-2-3!
First, change your trash cart size…
Just call 512-494-9400. Whether you live in Eanes ISD, Falcon Pointe or Olympic Heights, the City of Austin will deliver a new cart to your house at no extra cost.
Second, take a free composting class…
