Austin Private Schools: Christian Based
published on May 23, 2012
Austin is a diverse city, with an equally diverse choice of schools for children and teenagers to attend. The city has highly-regarded private schools, both secular and religiously affiliated. Selecting one can depend on a family’s proximity to the school, religious beliefs, and academic philosophy. Below are just a few of the highly regarded Christian-based private schools in Austin:
Regents School of Austin, located close to Travis Country, is an independent, private school based on a mission to provide a classical and Christian education founded upon and informed by a biblical worldview, that equips students to know, love, and practice that which is true, good and beautiful, and which challenges them to strive for excellence as they live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man. The school teaches over 900 students in grades K-12 on an 82-acre campus in Southwest Austin. Besides boasting a family-friendly environment with academic excellence, in the last six years the school has won five state championships in football, one state championship in volleyball, and one state championship in cheerleading.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal School
The foundation of the St. Stephen’s experience is the school’s rigorous academic program. Long acknowledged as one of the region’s preeminent college-preparatory schools, located in West Lake Hills, St. Stephen’s has emerged as a national leader in preparatory education, and its graduates consistently go on to study at the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities. St. Stephen’s students tend to be adventuresome and individualistic. This independent thinking makes the college counseling process at St. Stephen’s an exciting journey for all involved. The National Merit Scholarship Corp. selected 28 St. Stephen’s students in the competition for Merit awards, (these students were among 16,000 Semifinalists selected from more than 1.3 million competitors). The St. Stephen’s academic program is designed for able, motivated young people who plan to attend college. Students receive a world-class education from teachers who are deeply committed not only to teaching but also to the success and well-being of their students. Small class sizes and personal interaction with faculty, both in and out of the classroom, ensure that every student can develop his or her potential to the fullest.
Hill Country Christian School of Austin
Located on 620 close to Lake Travis area neighborhoods, Hill Country Christian School of Austin has grown tenfold since its opening in 1996, now serving over 500 students in preschool through twelfth grade and offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes numerous programs in the academic, athletic, and fine arts arenas. Since its inception, Hill Country has endeavored to prepare its students to become Christ-like leaders in their schools, churches, communities, families and vocations. Alumnae now serve in fields as diverse as law, the military, medicine, education, and business, and graduates attend universities throughout Texas and beyond. The school prides itself on being an intimate, family-friendly environment where students are nurtured and challenged to develop their natural gifts. As a Christ-centered school, the curriculum is committed to integrating faith and learning by teaching all subjects from a Christian world-and-life view. As a classical school, mastery of the liberal arts is emphasized, and all students are taught to value truth, beauty, and goodness. As a college-preparatory school, a comprehensive curriculum that meets or exceeds the admission requirements of the most selective colleges and universities in the nation is offered.
Austin has ten Catholic private schools recognized by the Catholic Diocese of Austin. The schools serve a range of ages, from pre-school to twelfth grade, and are located throughout the city. The Holy Family Catholic School serves a student population of almost 500 from pre-school to eighth grade, and is located in the Texas Hill Country, close to neighborhoods like Avery Ranch, and feeds into the nearby St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School. Some of the schools, like the Cathedral School, have been in Austin for over a hundred years, catering to the educational and spiritual enrichment of Austin youth.
