Austin: Circuit of The Americas Greens Up its Grand Prix

In Austin, Texas, Circuit of The Americas™ is a world-class destination. Visitors from as close to home as Shady Hollow and as far away as Tokyo flock to its 1,500 acres for the annual FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX.

The first racing facility in the United States purposely built for Formula 1™ racing, Circuit of The Americas™ is designed to host a variety of sports and entertainment events. As if that’s not enough, now it’s going green: On August 1, 2013 the City of Austin recognized Circuit of The Americas™ as a Green Business Leader for 2013.

“We are honored to be among the first 100 businesses recognized for this distinction by the City of Austin,” said Circuit Director of Sustainability Edgar Farrera.

The City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability launched the voluntary Green Business Leaders Program to support local businesses in the pursuit of “going green.” As companies take actions towards sustainable business practices, they earn points and are able to progress through Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels of achievement and recognition.

“Circuit of The Americas has worked hard to integrate sustainable business practices throughout its growth, and we will continue to make progress toward setting the standard in the motorsports and entertainment industry,” said Farrera.

The program offers guidance on how to take action across several areas of sustainability, including transportation, waste, water, energy, employee health, and participation within the community. Once businesses complete the program, they earn recognition and receive a toolkit to continue their stewardship as an Austin Green Business Leader. Congrats, Circuit of The Americas™!
