Austin Chamber of Commerce Plans to Create Tech Startup Incubator
published on June 4, 2012
Business leaders in the Austin Chamber of Commerce are planning to help technology startup companies by creating a new, collaborative Downtown Austinworkspace for them. The Chamber plans to partner with local accelerator Capital Factory in the launch of a new space called Austin TechLive. The workspace will be located on Eighth Street, at Capital Factory’s offices. “Austin, and Texas overall, have both gained a solid reputation for being business friendly,” Regent Property Group founder Brian Talley said. “This idea is going to do wonderful things both for our local economy and innovations in the tech industry. I’m hoping they help a company who makes a really cool new gadget, personally.”
Austin TechLive will work as a downtown hub for startups that would help create jobs, recruit skilled talent and offer a space for training and networking opportunities. The downtown location will allow workers to easily meet with potential clients and partners. It is also hoped that having startups share space and receive training in a comfortable environment will have a greater likelihood of generating positive results and attracting talented tech engineers and designers. Further, The University of Texas and mentoring group General Assembly of New York will help facilitate educational programming at Austin TechLive. The beauty of Austin luxury homes are also enticing incentives for companies to perform well, as successful businesses open wider doors for home buying.
The Chamber plans to create a space that is large enough to house 10 startups, with the goal of attracting 50 new startups to the Austin region.Austin has more than 4,000 tech companies and more than 100,000 tech jobs, but the city hopes to add 5,000 more by the end of 2012. This is good news for both the tech-savvy and the tech-challenged, who both benefit from easy to use, well designed technology. It’s also good news for the Austin economy and the housing market, as job growth drives purchasing decisions. As the market slowly turns in sellers’ favor, with more good news in their favor pending, it’s a fantastic time to begin a new Austin home search.
