Alamo Drafthouse Goes South to Slaughter Lane
published on August 31, 2011
South Austin has grown tremendously over the past five years, in both home developments and the amount and quality of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment venues. Now, thanks to a true Austin institution, that quality is taking a leap forward, as Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas makes its way to Southwest Austin as the pinnacle property in the developing Parkside Village center.
Near MoPac and Slaughter Lane, adjacent to the Circle C community, the new theater will be named Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane and will feature eight screens with around 800 seats, plus a 34-seat micro-cinema where they’ll screen niche films. The newly announced name and progressing construction heighten the excitement for this exciting project – even though the actual opening date has not been announced.
“As the need for a higher quality of living increases with the values of the homes, so does the diversity of places where homeowners in the Circle C, Village at Western Oaks, Legend Oaks, and other Southwest Austin communities can spend their leisure time and disposable income,” said Regent Property Group owner Brian Talley. “It will also help to add a true sense of community to the area, as residents can walk or ride their bikes to the theater or other businesses in the same center.”
Alamo Drafthouse is a unique cinema experience that combines first-run films and unique programming with high-quality food and a comfortable setting. And let’s not forget the booze – Alamo Drafthouse is one of the few theaters in the nation that serves beer, wine, and (at some locations) alcohol, right to the seats. Because what goes better with a summer blockbuster than a pint of your favorite brew?
Another gift that Drafthouse founders are bringing to the community is the 400 Rabbits bar, which will be adjacent to the theater. The bar will feature agave spirits (tequila, mescal, and stool) curated by newly hired Beverage Director Bill Norris, as well as standard cocktails. There is definitely no bar like this one in South Austin so it will be a sure treat!
As Alamo Drafthouse has grown from its original location in downtown Austin, expanding both north and south, it has given Austin residents more opportunities to enjoy its unique atmosphere. Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane will be only the second location south of downtown so now more south Austinites than ever can enjoy Alamo!
