Travis Country is a large subdivision of over 1,000 homes in Southwest Austin. Established in 1975 and heralding itself as Austin’s first environmentally planned neighborhood, Travis Country has grown over the decades and offers a wide range of homes with well-established landscaping and a strong community identity, extending to active neighbor collaboration and even a lovely community garden project. Appreciated for its proximity to Highway 290 and Mo-Pac to the east and Capital of Texas Highway only moments north, Travis County is ideal for those who travel to almost any part of town and offers a secluded, “coming home” feel with its attention to greenspace and neighborhood planning.

"When choosing a neighborhood, I wanted to be able to walk out the door and go for a walk or run,” said Travis Country resident Andy de Waal. She said she finds there are usually “tons of people out” in the neighborhood with the same idea.

home in Travis Country neighborhood“Travis Country has a real sense of community,” she said, with “tons of green space, two pools, and two playgrounds." She also added, “The location is perfect.”

Neighborhood Association

travis country signage at neighborhood entranceThe Travis Country Homeowners Association is very active, with community gardening classes, End of Summer Parties, and Ice Cream Socials. They also host a biannual garage sale, Arbor Day tree planting, National Night Out, and even Movies at the Park! Committees for involvement include architectural, communications, safety, grounds, pool, social, tennis, and land.

This quote posted on the official Travis Country Facebook page encapsulates the people of Travis Country: "About a month ago, I found a stranger mowing my neighbor's lawn. I walked over to say hello and find out who this person was and why they were in my neighbor's yard. Turns out the lady lives down the street and knew the neighbor in question was unable to mow his yard. She said, 'For so many years, that yard was the prettiest on the block, I just couldn't let it look so bad.' People will say that Travis Country is a desirable neighborhood because of its proximity to downtown, the greenbelts nearby, the pools and other amenities. Don't tell them about the neighbors. We won't be able to keep them away!!"
