The homes and styles of homes in Travis Country are diverse, due to multiple building cycles: in the mid-1970s through the early 1980s and then the mid-1990s to 2000, when the community completed construction of new homes. I walked over to say hello and find out who this person was and why they were in my neighbor's yard. Turns out the lady lives down the street and knew the neighbor in question was unable to mow his yard. She said, 'For so many years, that yard was the prettiest on the block, I just couldn't let it look so bad.' People will say that Travis Country is a desirable neighborhood because of its proximity to downtown, the greenbelts nearby, the pools and other amenities. Don't tell them about the neighbors. We won't be able to keep them away!!"

gaines park at Travis CountryTravis Country has devoted itself to providing extensive neighborhood amenities. It offers numerous hike and bike trails, a community and nature center, a stocked pond, tennis courts, a basketball court, picnic areas, swimming pools, and ample green and park space.

Blue Valley Amenity Area is a sprawling, multi-purpose park in the lower Sycamore Creek area. Bald cypress trees shade Blue Valley Pond, an eighth-mile freshwater habitat with ducks, turtles, and fish, where fishing and dog swimming are allowed. The ducks at Blue Valley Park walk up to residents hoping for bread or crackers, and sometimes the turtles even join in the race for a treat, too! The area also includes a swimming center and pavilion with lap, diving, and baby pools; six tennis courts; a basketball court; a playground; and open space.

Travis Country Neighborhood Swimming PoolHilltop Amenity Area offers additional tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground, swimming and baby pools, and picnic tables and grills. Sycamore Creek Nature Trail connects the two areas by a 1.5 mile foot path.

Thirty-eight acre Gaines Park offers another natural setting for the residents of Travis Country, with trails, park benches, and abundant wildlife.

Travis Country’s greenspace also offers an access point to the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

Golf

The closest golf courses to Travis Country are at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa, which offers four courses, a hotel, spa, and many recreational opportunities such as swimming and tennis.

Shopping and Restaurants

Numerous small restaurants and stores are near the entrance to Travis Country on Southwest Parkway. Just across from Travis Country at Southwest Parkway and Mo-Pac is Milano Café, which serves homemade pasta, gourmet pizzas, and desserts. A recent Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on the other side of the intersection provides a breakfast jolt for those hopping on the feeder road into downtown.

Moments away are two large shopping centers in Sunset Valley, which offer dozens of stores, including Barnes & Noble, Home Goods, DSW Shoe Warehouse, World Market, Academy, Bed Bath & Beyond, and more. A Home Depot, Lowe’s, Sam’s, Best Buy, and Spec’s Wine also are within minutes of the neighborhood.

Just to the south of Travis Country on Mo-Pac are the Shops at Arbor Trails, with a Costco, Whole Foods, numerous restaurants such as Chuy’s, Mandola’s, and Kerbey Lane, and stores such as Healthy Pet, Staples, and Haverty’s.

Barton Creek Mall is under five minutes away from Travis Country, just one exit north on MoPac.

Cultural Offerings
