If the mention of Westlake conjures images in your mind of Austin’s most elegant homes in exclusive gated communities, you’d be correct. But it won’t be until you begin exploring the area that you discover ‘Westlake’ is actually comprised of several smaller, very clearly defined sections. One of them is The Creek at Riverbend.


Depending on who you consult, this area has many names. Many simply stick with the generalized ‘Westlake’ moniker. But to those a little more familiar with this part of town, it’s sometimes referred to as the ‘Bunny Run’ area, as the privacy gates to the neighborhood are accessed from the street of the same name, and Bunny Run is the common street also taking you to several other nearby enclaves, like Hunterwood, Bridge Hill, and Upper Rivercrest. As a whole this cluster of neighborhoods is considered the most high-end real estate to be found in Austin.

When they were first built and sold to their original owners in the late 1990s, these homes were in fact widely known as ‘The Creek at Riverbend’, and that is in fact what you’ll still see on the white stone walls and gates that enclose the neighborhood at its perimeter adjacent to Bunny Run. You may hear Realtors these days refer to this as ‘Davenport West’. Technically that is its legal description, but it’s only a piece of that larger development.

To be even more specific, once you get through the gates, you will find that The Creek at Riverbend encompasses only 38 properties on just a few streets: Meandering Creek Cove, Dogwood Creek Cove, Dogwood Creek Drive and Shady Creek Cove. But these homes are some of the most striking you’ll see. Impressive in their size, they sit on large, heavily treed lots backing to greenbelt area. They range from 3,500 to 4,500 square feet, most with four or five bedrooms, three to five full bathrooms and a two or three car garage.

Like other homes in Westlake you will find plenty of custom features: handsome stone or stucco exteriors, granite counters, hard wood flooring, soaring ceilings, expansive spaces and private pools. Others have large gourmet kitchens, expanded master bedrooms and private maid’s quarters.

There have only been a small handful of these homes on the market within the past year, netting sales prices between $799,000 and $929,000.

The Creek at Riverbend is located just a short distance from Loop 360, about a mile from the Pennybaker Bridge, in perhaps the most scenic and beautiful part of Austin. This is an area meant to be enjoyed, whether it is the nearby hike and bike trails, boating in Lake Austin or enjoying the Bunny Run Wildlife Preserve. At the same time this is very close to downtown Austin, and close to major shopping centers like the Arboretum and Davenport Village.

The other major draw for this area is the highly regarded Eanes Independent School District, widely considered one of the best in Texas.
