Overview

Named for the wandering journey of Barton Creek between its rolling hills, approximately 4,500 people call Lost Creek home. Though most homes were built in the 1980s, development of the 24 plat sections with 20 residential sections began in the mid-seventies.

In 1972, the City of Austin and the Texas Water Commission granted permission toform the Lost Creek Municipal Utility District (MUD) and issued bonds to provide sewer and water service. It was at that juncture that developers started to formulate their plans for building homes across the 775 pristine acres now known as Lost Creek.

Properties in Lost Creek

Coveted for its exemplary school district, strong sense of community, and prime location, this secluded, family-friendly neighborhood features countless variations of custom-built homes set against beautiful hill country overlooks and tranquil, protected greenbelts.

The quiet and scenic Lost Creek neighborhood is famous for its views, mature trees, and spacious, upscale homes. Thirty percent of properties back up to a greenbelt or overlook the hill country.

A typical home in Lost Creek has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 2 living areas, and a 2-car garage. Sizes range from 1,800 to 6,000 square feet, averaging about 2,700. The community also features a handful of condominiums and garden homes.

Within this well-established and close-knit neighborhood, remodeling is fairly common. As domestic needs change, Lost Creek families tend to enlarge or remodel their homes rather than move. Consequently, turnover is very low and demand is extraordinarily high.

Those who live in Lost Creek also enjoy some of the lowest property taxes in Austin because the subdivision is technically outside the Austin city limits and owners do not pay city taxes. The primary taxing entities are Eanes ISD, Travis County, and the Lost Creek Municipal Utility District. Taxes from all sources totaled a mere $2.03 per $100 of property value in 2012.
