No matter the size of a business, being online in today’s America is as vital as having a phone. Yet, many small businesses still shy away from crossing the great technological divide.
“We know the lack of online exposure is hurting our company, but building a website takes time and resources we just don’t have,” remarked nursery-owner Terry Rodriguez from her home in Shady Hollow.
But, this past month, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce announced it will partner with Google to help local businesses like Terry’s step into the new millennium. The program, called “Texas Get your Business Online”, will give businesses the tools and resources to establish a website, find new customers, and grow.
“The perception that getting online is complex, costly, and time-consuming has prevented many Texas small businesses from taking the first step,” said Scott Levitan, Director of Small Business Engagement at Google. “This program makes it fast, easy, and free for businesses to get online."
Increasing the number of Texas small businesses online has the potential to significantly expand the Texas economy. While 97% of Americans look online for local products and services, only 42% of small businesses have a website or online presence.
The Austin REALTORS® at Regent Property Group congratulate Google and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce on their partnership to help small businesses, and applaud small businesses for taking that leap.
