There may be some relief for the tight housing market in Austin, Texas: new construction is on the upswing. Home starts in the Austin area increased seven percent compared to last year, according to housing information and consulting firm Metrostudy. 2014’s increase brings home starts to 9,782.
Of note is the upward trend of price points. “In the last 12 months we’ve started 22% more homes between $500,000 and $750,000 than we have below $150,000,” said Madison Inselmann, Regional Director of Metrostudy’s Austin market. “That right there tells you all you need to know about the shifting fundamentals in the Austin market.”

Austin-area home sales reached an all-time high this June, increasing 13 percent over June 2013, according to a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) report released by the Austin Board of REALTORS®. This pace puts 2014 in the running for Austin’s highest all-time sales volume, potentially breaking last year’s all-time high record.
“The 2014 summer selling season in Austin was expected to be strong, and June 2014’s home sales activity did not disappoint,” said ABOR President Bill Evans. “Austin’s housing stock is rising to meet the area’s continually strong housing demand, and as a result Austin saw a sharp rise in home sales in June 2014.”

A group of kids from the Austin Sunshine Camps was in for a treat at a recent Austin Aces match, courtesy of real estate brokerage Regent Property Group. Regent donated tickets so Sunshine Camp kids could experience Austin’s first professional tennis team play at the Cedar Park Center. Twenty campers between the ages of 8-13 were able to attend the match.
“One of the girls got to get on the court and return a serve from Andy Roddick,” said Jenny Stucky, Executive Director of Austin YMBL Sunshine Camps, and "she carried the ball around camp with her for the remainder of the camp session. This experience definitely made a huge impact on this camper."

With local matches at the Cedar Park Center, marquee stars include Austin resident and former World #1 Andy Roddick and Reigning 2013 Wimbledon Champion Marion Bartoli. The inaugural season kicks off at home on July 8 against the Springfield Lasers.
