Austin-Area Home Sales Hit Record High in February

Austin real estate salesDid you think the Austin-area real estate market couldn’t get any hotter? Think again. Homes from Barton Creek West to Falcon Pointe are selling like hotcakes.

According to a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) report released at the end of March by the Austin Board of REALTORS®, home sales and home prices both reached an all-time high in February of 2014.

“Sales are increasing year-over-year, and rising home starts have begun to offset Austin’s shrinking housing inventory. These factors taken together make it look like we will have a great real estate year in 2014,” said Bill Evans, President of the Austin Board of REALTORS®.

The median price for Austin-area homes rose to $230,530 in February: an 11 percent gain from February 2013. Also, 1,761

This May: Austin’s FREE Shakespeare in Zilker Park Celebrates 30 Years with "As You Like It"

To celebrate three decades of park-side theater, The City of Austin, Austin Parks and Recreation Department, and Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theatre are coming together with Austin Shakespeare to present As You Like It May 1st through 25th.

“Audiences will spend an evening with some of Shakespeare's most memorable characters, such as the quick-witted heroine Rosalind and Touchstone the Jester, while hearing the legendary 'Seven Ages of Man' speech,” said Ann Ciccolella.

Ciccolella is Austin Shakespeare’s Artistic Director, and of all Shakespeare’s plays, As You Like It is her favorite. "I am thrilled to be directing it!” she said.

Under Construction in ATX: Futuristic New Central Library on Cesar Chavez

new Austin public library downtownIn the summer of 2016, Austin Public Library will have a brand new home in Central Austin. Last Spring, construction commenced on the sustainably-designed New Central Library. The 198,000-square-foot new building will rise six stories above Cesar Chavez to replace the smaller Faulk Central Library at 8th and Guadalupe Street.

Just east of the new Seaholm development, the green-minded library will face Ladybird Lake and operate 30 percent more efficiently than required by code. Reading porches and a rooftop garden will overlook the lake and adjacent Shoal Creek.

Recycled Reads, APL’s zero-waster bookstore, will have a retail space on site, and an Austin-themed café will provide indoor and outdoor dining. The library’s exterior will parallel City Hall

For the Love of Wine: Austin Homes with Personal Wine Cellars

You would see palm trees, rolling hills, and mansions and perhaps conclude, “I’m in California.” The rocky, cliff-like terrain and winding roads might whisper, “Italy.” Or, the thick red, white, and blue stripes of the Lone Star State’s flag, blowing near a lavender field, could fool you into thinking “je suis en France!” But, finally, a Texan accent would chime in, and you’d know your original guesses were off by many miles.

However different Austin is from California, Italy, and France, they all have one thing in common: wine. Austin’s rocky terrain and sun-bathed hills create an ideal viticulture environment, and the central Texas hill country has plenty of wineries to show for it.
