Austin School Rankings 2009

Below are the results of a study done by Children at Risk. The results were published in the September 20, 2009 issue of the Austin American-Statesman.

As stated in the Austin American-Statesman: "Children at Risk's Central Texas study ranked 47 high schools run by 31 school districts and charter operators, 79 middle schools run by 38 school districts and charter operators, and 207 elementary schools run by 35 school districts and charter operators. Those Central Texas campuses were included in a statewide comparison of 902 high schools, 1,676 middle schools and 3,333 elementary schools."

Austin Unemployment and Austin Real Estate Market Update August 2009

Austin Real Estate vs Unemployment

The Austin unemployment rate (Austin-Round Rock) decreased from 7.3 % in July 2009 to 7.2% in August 2009 with 3,400 less people employed in Austin-Round Rock in August 2009 than the previous month. In comparison, during the same time period the State of Texas unemployment rate decreased from 8.2% in July 2009 to 8.1% in August 2009.  The United States unemployment also decreased from 9.7% in July 2009 to 9.6% in August 2009. As you can see Austin-Round Rock continues to be significantly lower than the National Average.
Between January 1st and September 18th of 2009 there were 5,873 single-family homes sold within the Austin city limits with a median sold price of $116.97 per square foot ($234,975), which is a 6.51%

Austin Texas Real Estate Market Update and Statistics August 2009

As the peak Austin real estate season of our summer 2009 comes to a close, I’m seeing some strong positive indicators, but also some mixed signals from the August 2009 market statistics for the city limits of Austin. During August there were 14.2% fewer homes sold in 2009 than 2008. Median sold prices were down 5.9% overall and it is taking more time to sell homes. The Austin unemployment rate in July 2009 was up to 7.3% from 7.1% in June 2009.  However, the number of withdrawals was down 5% and the overall supply was down 37.7% to a very low 4.3 months of supply. Additionally, median sold prices actually increased by 7.1% for homes in the $500K - $1M price range sold during August 2009 compared to August 2008. While unemployment was up, there was still a…
