Properties in Barton Heights

Barton Heights began when William Barton built the first pioneer homestead by a spring on the southern bank of the Colorado River. A hundred and sixty years later, that spring is known as Barton Springs and that part of the river, Lady Bird Lake.

Barton Heights offers a diversity unique among 78704 neighborhoods, and residents believe it is one of the few neighborhoods in the city that still holds the true character of Austin as far as its landscaping, architecture, and off-beat atmosphere. "78704-Ever” bumper stickers are a constant among these “Hip Zip” aficionados.

Established in the 1930s and ‘50s, Barton Heights witnessed a surge of growth in the ‘50s with construction continuing through the ‘90s. A shady stroll under the mature trees of this beautiful, hilly community reveals mid-century cottages, modest bungalows, ranch-style and modern homes, as well as luxury condos – many with Austin skyline views. New construction and full renovations are common.
